Pannonian Rusyn

Etymology

Inherited from Old Slovak nič, from Proto-Slavic *ničьto. Cognate with Slovak nič.

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [ˈɲit͡ʃ]
  • Rhymes: -it͡ʃ
  • Hyphenation: нїч

Pronoun

нїч (njič)

  1. nothing
    Antonym: дацо (daco)

Usage notes

  • Prepositions always interpose нїхто (njixto) and нїч (njič) in inflected forms. For instance, the instrumental case is formed as нї з чим (nji z čim) or нї зоз чим (nji zoz čim) rather than *нїчим (*njičim). For the instrumental and locative cases, this is the only way to form them, and a declined form as one word does not exist.
